How New Zealand created the world’s first AWS Transformation Day.

After AWS supercharged its annual conference in Australia, the global technology brand needed to create an equally special and unique event to engage the New Zealand market.

Armed with a strategy to educate Kiwis about AWS cloud technology and how to innovate at scale, we created the world’s first AWS Transformation Day: a one-day event to engage new prospects, brand advocates, partners and sponsors with AWS products and services.

AWS Transformation Day Auckland targeted Kiwi start-ups, enterprise professionals and people beginning their cloud journey with a custom-built speaking program featuring AWS New Zealand Country Manager, Tim Dacombe Bird, as well as speakers from Dexibit, Fonterra and Vector, while the expo area showcased technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, IoT and Big Data alongside AWS products and partner solutions.

We transformed Auckland’s Shed 10 area, creating stages and break-out areas, an expo floor and sponsor booths, as well as food and beverage stations. We integrated AWS social media aggregator into screens around the event to amplify and share social commentary and encourage greater engagement from attendees.

Over 2,000 delegates attended the event, including an active component of AWS’ target audience of start-ups, enterprise professionals and people beginning their cloud journey and AWS succeeded in establishing a new event in the Auckland tech calendar. AWS has since gone on to host Transformation Day’s around the world in markets such as London, Munich, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
