How Bupa boosted staff morale with once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences.

To reward its hardworking staff, Bupa established a hugely popular employee rewards program called Boost, which enabled employees to gift small prizes to their colleagues to recognise their achievements.

To take this incentive program to the next level, we created Boost X, a program to provide the highest performing employees, those who received the most ‘Boosts’ during a six-month period, with the chance to experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip to an aspirational destination.

Managing all aspects of the event planning from destination concepting, itinerary creation, budget management, registration management – including the development of a registration portal and microsite – as well as creative asset development, supplier management, delegate management and onsite support for the trips, we created a customised experience for the Boost X program.

The first Bupa Boost X took place in February 2017 in Queenstown, where attendees enjoyed team building exercises and spectacular dinner experiences – including one dinner in a cave accessed by helicopter. Boost X participants could also choose between themed activities such as Extreme, which included Bungee Jumping, Indulge, which included Winery Cellar Door experiences, and Explore, which included tours of the stunning local area. A custom-built app provided participants with updates to advise what each day’s activities involved.

The Bupa Boost X experience not only provided employees with a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience that left them with unforgettable memories and stories, but it also served as inspiration and encouragement to their colleagues ensuring others worked hard to secure a spot in the next event.
